Crypto Tax FAQs
Do I owe tax if I only swapped one crypto for another?
Usually yes — swapping token A for token B is a disposal for capital gains purposes, as is spending crypto. Only buying with pounds and holding is tax-free. This is the rule that surprises people most.
The CGT allowance is tiny now — does that affect me?
Almost certainly. The annual exempt amount is £3,000, so even modest gains are reportable and taxable. Losses matter more than ever too — registering them lets you offset future gains.
I've had a letter from HMRC about crypto — what now?
Don't ignore it: HMRC sends nudge letters based on exchange data they already hold. We reconstruct your position, calculate anything owed and respond properly — voluntary disclosure is always cheaper than being pursued.
Is this service really available anywhere in the UK?
Yes — the whole engagement is online, so location is irrelevant. Records travel through our secure portal or WhatsApp, approvals happen on your phone, and filings go to HMRC and Companies House electronically. Same service, same fixed fee, everywhere.
