My company did nothing all year — why are accounts still required?
Because every registered company files accounts, trading or not. The dormant version (form AA02) is mercifully short — essentially a balance sheet showing unchanged share capital — but skipping it brings the same penalties and strike-off risk as any missed accounts.
When are dormant accounts due?
Nine months after your financial year end — or 21 months after incorporation for your first set. Late means an automatic £150 penalty rising to £1,500 the longer it drags, so the reminder we set is genuinely the most valuable part of the service.
What could make my company not dormant without me realising?
Any 'significant accounting transaction' — bank interest received, a payment taken through the company, fees other than Companies House's own. If something slipped through, dormant accounts would be the wrong filing entirely; we check first and tell you straight if full accounts are needed instead.
