Take-home pay calculator
Enter your salary; see what actually lands in your account after income tax and National Insurance — per year, month and week.
How the calculation works
Your first £12,570 is tax-free (the personal allowance), the next slice to £50,270 is taxed at 20%, then 40% to £125,140, then 45%. National Insurance takes 8% between £12,570 and £50,270 and 2% above that. Earn over £100,000 and the personal allowance shrinks by £1 for every £2 — creating the notorious 60% effective band to £125,140.
What the calculator assumes
A standard tax code, England/Wales/NI bands (Scotland's differ), and no pension contributions, student loan or benefits in kind. Pension contributions in particular can change the picture a lot — often in your favour, especially near £50,270 or £100,000.
If the number surprises you, that's usually a sign there's planning worth doing — salary sacrifice, pension timing, or checking an incorrect tax code (one of the most common overpayment causes in the UK).
