The new Companies House identity rules
Under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act, directors and people with significant control must now verify their identity with Companies House — mandatory for new appointments since 18 November 2025, and rolling out to existing directors at their next confirmation statement. Verified individuals receive an 11-character Personal Code used on filings, alongside the company's existing 6-character authentication code. It sounds like a lot; in practice it's a few minutes on a phone, and we handle the sequencing as part of every filing we submit.

Anywhere within the same jurisdiction your company was registered in — a company registered in England and Wales must keep its registered office in England or Wales, and likewise for Scotland and Northern Ireland. We check this before filing because the rejection is a silly one to receive.
How long does the change take?
The filing goes in the same day; Companies House typically confirms within 24–48 hours, and the register updates immediately after. Your old address stays visible in the company's filing history, which is worth knowing if privacy was the motive — moving early matters.
Do I need to tell HMRC separately?
Yes — Companies House doesn't pass it on for all purposes. Corporation tax, VAT and PAYE records each carry an address, and our checklist covers the set so nothing official lands at premises you've left.
