Company name checker
See whether your name is free to register — and the similar names Companies House will compare it against.
Available isn't the same as allowed
Companies House rejects a name that is the "same as" an existing one — and its definition of same ignores punctuation, spacing, and words like "UK", "services" or ".com". So Smiths Bakery Ltd and Smith's Bakery UK Ltd count as the same name. That's why the similar-names list above matters as much as the exact match.
Watch the sensitive words
Terms such as "chartered", "bank", "insurance", "institute" and dozens more need evidence or official approval before Companies House will accept them. A rejected application wastes days at exactly the moment you want momentum. When we form your company, the name check — including the sensitive-words list — is done properly before anything is filed.
Name free? Move before someone else does
Registration is first-come, first-served, and a name can disappear overnight. If you're not ready to trade yet, a dormant company from £29 reserves the name legally while you get ready.
