What makes us different

Online accountants vs the high street

Most local firms near North Shields quote low, bill by the hour and reserve the right to charge for every phone call. Our model inverts that: the fee is fixed and written down before work begins, questions are part of the service rather than billable events, and everything happens online — the reason North Shields pays the same as everywhere else.

There's no office to fund in North Shields and no office to visit: records travel through our secure portal or WhatsApp, approvals happen on your phone, and filings go to HMRC and Companies House electronically. You get the same qualified work — minus the overheads, the travel and the surprises on the invoice.

Serving North Shields

The same service in North Shields as anywhere — by design

We built this service so that someone in North Shields never pays a premium — or accepts worse service — because of geography. Same specialists, same published fees, same speed, wherever in North East you are.

Smaller towns like North Shields are exactly why we work online: the nearest high-street firm may be a drive away, keep office hours, and price like scarcity. Your accountant should be as close as your phone — and priced like competition exists.

Questions

North Shields bookkeeping FAQs

Which bookkeeping software do you use?

Xero, QuickBooks or FreeAgent — whichever suits your business (or whichever you already use). Software subscription can be included in your monthly fee, and we handle all the setup and migration.

What counts as a transaction?

Each line on your bank statement — a payment in or out. Most one-person businesses sit comfortably under 50 a month. If you drift over your band we'll tell you before the fee changes, never after.

My books are months behind — can you catch them up?

Yes, catch-up bookkeeping is one of the most common jobs we take on. We'll quote a one-off fixed fee for the backlog, then a monthly fee to keep you current from there.

Do I need to visit an office in North Shields?

No — there's nothing to visit and nothing to print. We're an online firm: records go through our secure portal or WhatsApp, and everything is filed electronically. It works the same whether you're in North Shields or anywhere else in North East.

I searched "bookkeeping near me" — is this service really local to North Shields?

North Shields is fully covered, yes. The work is done online, which in practice means more local than an office: same-day replies instead of appointment slots, and the same published fixed fee whether you're in North Shields town centre or the edge of North East. If you'd rather talk it through first, WhatsApp us — a real person answers.

Who will actually handle my bookkeeping?

Bohzo Accountants — a trading name of Bohzo Ltd, a registered UK company (No. 15031604). You get a named contact, a fixed fee in writing, and nothing is filed until you've reviewed and approved it.

How do your fixed fees work?

You tell us your situation, we quote one fixed price in writing before any work starts, and that price never changes mid-job. If your case is unusually complex we'll say so up front and agree a different fixed price — but the fee is always agreed before we begin, never after.

Worth knowing

Things worth knowing before your next filing

Corporation tax dates work differently

New companies often have a long first accounting period, which can mean two corporation tax returns for one set of accounts. It's normal, but it's exactly the kind of thing that's cheaper to get right first time than to unpick.

Landlord tax has its own rules

Since Section 24, individual landlords can't deduct mortgage interest as an expense — it's a 20% tax credit instead, which pushes some higher-rate landlords into surprising bills. Whether to hold property personally or through a company is now a genuine question with genuine trade-offs.

Sole trader or limited company?

Plenty of people incorporate too early because it "sounds established", then pay for accounts, confirmation statements and payroll they didn't need. The switch pays for itself at the right profit level — the trick is knowing yours.

Penalties escalate on a timetable

Can't pay the bill by the deadline? File anyway. Filing and payment are penalised separately, and HMRC's Time to Pay arrangements can spread the bill — but only once the return is in. Not filing because you can't pay turns one problem into two.

The 31 January deadline, without the panic

Miss 31 January and the £100 fine is automatic; three months later daily penalties start. If you're behind on a return, the maths almost always favours filing quickly over waiting — penalties grow on a timetable, and HMRC charges interest either way.

IR35 and working through a company

Inside-IR35 and outside-IR35 engagements need different setups — sometimes umbrella, sometimes the company, sometimes both across a year. Contractors who plan this per-engagement keep more and worry less.

Side income and the £1,000 allowance

Selling online, freelancing on the side, renting out equipment — each can be a "trade" in HMRC's eyes once it's done with a profit motive. The good news: registering is straightforward, expenses become claimable, and done early it's a non-event.

When HMRC writes to you

Most HMRC letters are routine — a statement, a code change, a reminder. The rule is simple: never ignore one, and never panic over one. Forwarded to your accountant the day it arrives, almost every letter is a five-minute job.

General guidance, not personal advice — thresholds and dates change. For advice on your own position in North Shields, message us and we'll answer against your actual numbers.
