What makes us different

Online accountants vs the high street

A high-street accountant in East Midlands typically bills by the hour, meets by appointment and prices each extra question. We built the opposite: written fixed fees agreed up front, unlimited questions inside the price, and a fully online workflow — no premises anywhere, so no premises priced into your fee in Melton Mowbray.

There's no office to fund in Melton Mowbray and no office to visit: records travel through our secure portal or WhatsApp, approvals happen on your phone, and filings go to HMRC and Companies House electronically. You get the same qualified work — minus the overheads, the travel and the surprises on the invoice.

Serving Melton Mowbray

The same service in Melton Mowbray as anywhere — by design

Whether your business trades from Melton Mowbray itself or you simply live there and work everywhere, the tax rules are national — and so are we. Melton Mowbray clients get the same preparers, the same fixed fees and the same deadline tracking as every other town on this site.

A lot of our East Midlands clients switched from local firms after one too many surprise invoices. The fix wasn't a cheaper local firm; it was removing the billing model that produces surprises. Fixed fees, in writing, before the work — that's the whole trick.

Questions

Melton Mowbray business advisory FAQs

How is this different from just talking to my accountant?

Compliance accounting answers 'what happened and what's owed'. Advisory answers 'what should I do next' — with preparation, analysis of your actual figures, and a written recommendation. It's a different service with a different fee, deliberately fixed so you're not watching a clock.

What if you think my plan is a bad idea?

We'll say so, with the numbers that say why, and usually an alternative. A £149 session that stops a £30,000 mistake is the best return we offer.

Do I need to be an existing client?

No — advisory sessions are open to any UK business. You'll share recent accounts and figures beforehand so the session starts informed.

Do I need to visit an office in Melton Mowbray?

No — there's nothing to visit and nothing to print. We're an online firm: records go through our secure portal or WhatsApp, and everything is filed electronically. It works the same whether you're in Melton Mowbray or anywhere else in East Midlands.

I searched "business advisory near me" — is this service really local to Melton Mowbray?

Melton Mowbray is fully covered, yes. The work is done online, which in practice means more local than an office: same-day replies instead of appointment slots, and the same published fixed fee whether you're in Melton Mowbray town centre or the edge of East Midlands. If you'd rather talk it through first, WhatsApp us — a real person answers.

Who will actually handle my business advisory?

Bohzo Accountants — a trading name of Bohzo Ltd, a registered UK company (No. 15031604). You get a named contact, a fixed fee in writing, and nothing is filed until you've reviewed and approved it.

How do your fixed fees work?

You tell us your situation, we quote one fixed price in writing before any work starts, and that price never changes mid-job. If your case is unusually complex we'll say so up front and agree a different fixed price — but the fee is always agreed before we begin, never after.

Worth knowing

The short version of the rules that matter

Payroll and pensions for small employers

Auto-enrolment applies from the first eligible employee: assess, enrol, contribute, declare. The Pensions Regulator does check, and the fines for ignoring it are out of proportion to how simple compliance actually is.

Dividends: the allowance is small now

The tax-free dividend allowance is down to £500, so almost any director taking dividends now pays some dividend tax — and needs a Self Assessment return to report it. The classic small-salary-plus-dividends strategy still works; it just needs actual planning rather than folklore.

Payments on account, decoded

If your last Self Assessment bill was over £1,000, HMRC usually asks for next year's tax in advance — half on 31 January, half on 31 July. It's the number-one cause of "why is my bill double?" calls, and it's manageable: if your income has dropped, the payments can be reduced with a claim.

Capital gains: windows and allowances

UK residential property sales have their own regime: report and pay within 60 days of completion, separately from Self Assessment. Other gains report annually. Mixing up the two timetables is a common and expensive mistake.

Side income and the £1,000 allowance

HMRC receives data directly from online platforms about sellers' income. If a side hustle has grown past the £1,000 trading allowance, coming forward first is always cheaper than being written to — penalties scale with how the disclosure starts.

The VAT registration threshold

Some businesses register for VAT before they must — reclaiming input VAT can be worth it if your customers are VAT-registered themselves. Others should stay below deliberately. It's a real decision with real numbers, not a formality.

Landlord tax has its own rules

Rental profits need reporting once they're more than trivial, and the rules differ for furnished holiday lets, rent-a-room and ordinary lets. Landlords are also in the first wave of Making Tax Digital — property income counts towards the £50,000 threshold.

Tax is a cash-flow event

The businesses that struggle with tax bills rarely have a tax problem; they have a timing problem. Knowing the bill in September instead of January — which filing early gives you for free — is the difference between planning and scrambling.

General guidance, not personal advice — thresholds and dates change. For advice on your own position in Melton Mowbray, message us and we'll answer against your actual numbers.
