What makes us different

Online accountants vs the high street

Most local firms near Portadown quote low, bill by the hour and reserve the right to charge for every phone call. We built the opposite: written fixed fees agreed up front, unlimited questions inside the price, and a fully online workflow — no premises anywhere, so no premises priced into your fee in Portadown.

There's no office to fund in Portadown and no office to visit: records travel through our secure portal or WhatsApp, approvals happen on your phone, and filings go to HMRC and Companies House electronically. You get the same qualified work — minus the overheads, the travel and the surprises on the invoice.

Serving Portadown

The same service in Portadown as anywhere — by design

We built this service so that someone in Portadown never pays a premium — or accepts worse service — because of geography. Same specialists, same published fees, same speed, wherever in Northern Ireland you are.

Smaller towns like Portadown are exactly why we work online: the nearest high-street firm may be a drive away, keep office hours, and price like scarcity. Your accountant should be as close as your phone — and priced like competition exists.

Questions

Portadown business advisory FAQs

How is this different from just talking to my accountant?

Compliance accounting answers 'what happened and what's owed'. Advisory answers 'what should I do next' — with preparation, analysis of your actual figures, and a written recommendation. It's a different service with a different fee, deliberately fixed so you're not watching a clock.

What if you think my plan is a bad idea?

We'll say so, with the numbers that say why, and usually an alternative. A £149 session that stops a £30,000 mistake is the best return we offer.

Do I need to be an existing client?

No — advisory sessions are open to any UK business. You'll share recent accounts and figures beforehand so the session starts informed.

Do I need to visit an office in Portadown?

No — there's nothing to visit and nothing to print. We're an online firm: records go through our secure portal or WhatsApp, and everything is filed electronically. It works the same whether you're in Portadown or anywhere else in Northern Ireland.

I searched "business advisory near me" — is this service really local to Portadown?

Portadown is fully covered, yes. The work is done online, which in practice means more local than an office: same-day replies instead of appointment slots, and the same published fixed fee whether you're in Portadown town centre or the edge of Northern Ireland. If you'd rather talk it through first, WhatsApp us — a real person answers.

Who will actually handle my business advisory?

Bohzo Accountants — a trading name of Bohzo Ltd, a registered UK company (No. 15031604). You get a named contact, a fixed fee in writing, and nothing is filed until you've reviewed and approved it.

How do your fixed fees work?

You tell us your situation, we quote one fixed price in writing before any work starts, and that price never changes mid-job. If your case is unusually complex we'll say so up front and agree a different fixed price — but the fee is always agreed before we begin, never after.

Worth knowing

The short version of the rules that matter

What to actually look for in an accountant

Compare accountants on the things that bite later: is the fee fixed and written down, what exactly is included, who does the work, how fast do they answer in January. Proximity to Portadown stopped being the differentiator the day filings went electronic.

Sole trader or limited company?

The honest answer changes with your profits. At lower profits, sole trader simplicity usually wins; as profits grow, a limited company's mix of salary and dividends, corporation tax rates and liability protection starts earning its extra admin. We run the actual numbers before recommending either.

IR35 and working through a company

If you contract through your own limited company, IR35 asks whether you'd be an employee without it. For medium and large clients, the status decision is theirs; for small clients, it's still yours — and getting it wrong in either direction costs money.

Allowable expenses: claim what's yours

The expenses rule is "wholly and exclusively" for the trade — which covers more than most people claim (proportionate home-working costs, business mileage, software subscriptions) and less than some hope (client entertaining, everyday clothing). Knowing the line is where the savings live.

Crypto is taxable — and visible

HMRC runs nudge-letter campaigns to crypto holders based on exchange data. If there are undeclared gains in past years, a voluntary disclosure is dramatically cheaper than waiting for the letter — penalties are scaled to cooperation.

Corporation tax dates work differently

New companies often have a long first accounting period, which can mean two corporation tax returns for one set of accounts. It's normal, but it's exactly the kind of thing that's cheaper to get right first time than to unpick.

Dividends: the allowance is small now

The tax-free dividend allowance is down to £500, so almost any director taking dividends now pays some dividend tax — and needs a Self Assessment return to report it. The classic small-salary-plus-dividends strategy still works; it just needs actual planning rather than folklore.

When HMRC writes to you

Compliance checks are usually specific: one return, one figure, one question. Answered promptly and with evidence, most close quickly. The expensive enquiries are the ones that started as unanswered letters.

General guidance, not personal advice — thresholds and dates change. For advice on your own position in Portadown, message us and we'll answer against your actual numbers.
