What makes us different

Online accountants vs the high street

Traditional firms around Scotland still run on hourly billing, office appointments and fees you discover after the work. We built the opposite: written fixed fees agreed up front, unlimited questions inside the price, and a fully online workflow — no premises anywhere, so no premises priced into your fee in Greenock.

There's no office to fund in Greenock and no office to visit: records travel through our secure portal or WhatsApp, approvals happen on your phone, and filings go to HMRC and Companies House electronically. You get the same qualified work — minus the overheads, the travel and the surprises on the invoice.

Online onboarding

The legal bits — ID verification, engagement letter — happen online in minutes, then your records come in via the portal or WhatsApp.

We prepare, you check and approve, we submit — and you get the HMRC confirmation the same day it's filed.

Serving Greenock

The same service in Greenock as anywhere — by design

We built this service so that someone in Greenock never pays a premium — or accepts worse service — because of geography. Same specialists, same published fees, same speed, wherever in Scotland you are.

Smaller towns like Greenock are exactly why we work online: the nearest high-street firm may be a drive away, keep office hours, and price like scarcity. Your accountant should be as close as your phone — and priced like competition exists.

Questions

Greenock crypto tax FAQs

Do I owe tax if I only swapped one crypto for another?

Usually yes — swapping token A for token B is a disposal for capital gains purposes, as is spending crypto. Only buying with pounds and holding is tax-free. This is the rule that surprises people most.

The CGT allowance is tiny now — does that affect me?

Almost certainly. The annual exempt amount is £3,000, so even modest gains are reportable and taxable. Losses matter more than ever too — registering them lets you offset future gains.

I've had a letter from HMRC about crypto — what now?

Don't ignore it: HMRC sends nudge letters based on exchange data they already hold. We reconstruct your position, calculate anything owed and respond properly — voluntary disclosure is always cheaper than being pursued.

Do I need to visit an office in Greenock?

No — there's nothing to visit and nothing to print. We're an online firm: records go through our secure portal or WhatsApp, and everything is filed electronically. It works the same whether you're in Greenock or anywhere else in Scotland.

I searched "crypto tax near me" — is this service really local to Greenock?

Greenock is fully covered, yes. The work is done online, which in practice means more local than an office: same-day replies instead of appointment slots, and the same published fixed fee whether you're in Greenock town centre or the edge of Scotland. If you'd rather talk it through first, WhatsApp us — a real person answers.

Who will actually handle my crypto tax?

Bohzo Accountants — a trading name of Bohzo Ltd, a registered UK company (No. 15031604). You get a named contact, a fixed fee in writing, and nothing is filed until you've reviewed and approved it.

How do your fixed fees work?

You tell us your situation, we quote one fixed price in writing before any work starts, and that price never changes mid-job. If your case is unusually complex we'll say so up front and agree a different fixed price — but the fee is always agreed before we begin, never after.

Worth knowing

Things worth knowing before your next filing

Dividends: the allowance is small now

The tax-free dividend allowance is down to £500, so almost any director taking dividends now pays some dividend tax — and needs a Self Assessment return to report it. The classic small-salary-plus-dividends strategy still works; it just needs actual planning rather than folklore.

Tax is a cash-flow event

Filing early doesn't mean paying early: submit a return in May and the tax is still not due until the usual dates. Early filing buys certainty, refund speed and time to arrange payment — it costs nothing.

IR35 and working through a company

Status under IR35 turns on the reality of the engagement: control, substitution, mutuality of obligation. Contracts matter, but working practices matter more. A written status assessment for each engagement is cheap insurance.

Sole trader or limited company?

The honest answer changes with your profits. At lower profits, sole trader simplicity usually wins; as profits grow, a limited company's mix of salary and dividends, corporation tax rates and liability protection starts earning its extra admin. We run the actual numbers before recommending either.

Crypto is taxable — and visible

HMRC runs nudge-letter campaigns to crypto holders based on exchange data. If there are undeclared gains in past years, a voluntary disclosure is dramatically cheaper than waiting for the letter — penalties are scaled to cooperation.

Corporation tax dates work differently

A limited company juggles two regulators: Companies House wants accounts within nine months of year end, HMRC wants corporation tax paid at nine months and a day. Same starting point, different documents — and late filing penalties at Companies House escalate automatically and are rarely cancelled.

Payroll and pensions for small employers

Auto-enrolment applies from the first eligible employee: assess, enrol, contribute, declare. The Pensions Regulator does check, and the fines for ignoring it are out of proportion to how simple compliance actually is.

The 31 January deadline, without the panic

Every year a wave of returns gets filed in the final days of January. It works, but it's the most expensive way to do it: no time to check for missed reliefs, and any tax due lands as one surprise. Sending your records early — even unsorted — is the single best gift you can give your January self.

General guidance, not personal advice — thresholds and dates change. For advice on your own position in Greenock, message us and we'll answer against your actual numbers.
