Payroll services
Payroll is unforgiving: staff notice a wrong payslip immediately, and HMRC notices a late RTI submission automatically. Outsourcing it costs from £25 a month for a director-only scheme — payslips produced, Real Time Information filed on or before every payday, pension contributions calculated, and the year-end P60s done without you thinking about them.
How we handle it
New employer? We register your PAYE scheme (£49), set the first payroll up correctly — including the auto-enrolment duties The Pensions Regulator will write to you about — and make paying people the easy part of employing them.

WhatsApp or the form — a few sentences is enough. A real person replies the same working day.
One price for the job, confirmed before anything starts. Complex case? We say so now, not on the invoice.
Photos of documents are fine. We chase whatever's missing — that's part of the job, not yours.
You review everything first; filings go to HMRC or Companies House electronically with same-day confirmation.

Terms you'll meet along the way
RTI
Real Time Information — the rule that HMRC must receive a payroll submission on or before every payday, not at year end.
Auto-enrolment
The legal duty to enrol eligible staff into a workplace pension and contribute. Applies from your first employee, with The Pensions Regulator watching.
P60 / P45
The annual summary each employee gets after 5 April (P60), and the leaving statement when someone departs (P45).
Reconciliation
Matching your books to the bank, transaction by transaction — the discipline that makes every other number trustworthy.
Chart of accounts
The category structure your transactions are coded into. A generic one makes reports vague; a tailored one makes them useful.
Aged debtors/creditors
Who owes you and whom you owe, banded by how overdue — the two lists that predict cash flow problems before the bank balance does.
Payroll services: your questions answered
How does monthly payroll pricing work?
£25/month covers a single director; up to five employees is £45; up to ten is £69. That includes payslips, RTI, pension calculations, starters and leavers, and the year-end. No per-payslip surcharges, no extra for a leaver mid-month.
What is RTI and why does it matter?
Real Time Information: HMRC must receive a submission on or before every payday, not at year end. It's the rule employers most often break without knowing, and penalties are automatic after the first slip. It's also the main reason DIY payroll stops being worth the £25 saved.
Can you take over payroll mid-tax-year?
Yes — we import year-to-date figures from your previous provider or software, verify them against HMRC's records, and the next payday runs seamlessly. Employees see no difference except payslips arriving on time.
I'm the only employee of my company — do I need payroll?
If you pay yourself a salary, yes — you need a PAYE scheme and RTI submissions even for one person. Director-only payroll is our most popular package at £25/mo, and we set the salary at the most tax-efficient level for you.
What is auto-enrolment and does it apply to me?
Every employer must assess staff for a workplace pension and enrol eligible employees. Even if your only staff member is you as director, you have duties to declare. We handle assessments, letters and declarations as part of the service.
Do I need PAYE if I'm the only person in the company?
If you pay yourself a salary above HMRC's lower earnings threshold, yes — a sole director drawing the usual tax-efficient salary needs an employer scheme just like a ten-person firm. It's how the salary gets reported and how your state pension record gets credited.
How long does registration take?
The application goes in immediately; HMRC typically posts your employer references within one to three weeks. Register before the first pay day — you can't run compliant payroll without the references, and backdating is messier than waiting.
Which bookkeeping software do you use?
Xero, QuickBooks or FreeAgent — whichever suits your business (or whichever you already use). Software subscription can be included in your monthly fee, and we handle all the setup and migration.
What counts as a transaction?
Each line on your bank statement — a payment in or out. Most one-person businesses sit comfortably under 50 a month. If you drift over your band we'll tell you before the fee changes, never after.
