What makes us different

Online accountants vs the high street

Traditional firms around Wales still run on hourly billing, office appointments and fees you discover after the work. We work the other way round: one fixed fee agreed in writing before anything starts, every question included, and the whole engagement handled online — which is exactly why we can serve Tre-lan at fees a walk-in office can't match.

There's no office to fund in Tre-lan and no office to visit: records travel through our secure portal or WhatsApp, approvals happen on your phone, and filings go to HMRC and Companies House electronically. You get the same qualified work — minus the overheads, the travel and the surprises on the invoice.

A WhatsApp message from Tre-lan is enough to start: what you need, what shape your records are in, any deadline you're worried about.

Fixed quote in writing

The quote arrives in writing, covers everything discussed, and is the number you'll actually pay. No revisions later.

Online onboarding

Identity checks, engagement letter, secure record upload — all handled from wherever you are in Tre-lan. We chase whatever's missing.

Approve, then we file

Nothing is filed until you've seen and approved it. Once you have, submission is electronic and confirmation comes straight back.

Serving Tre-lan

The same service in Tre-lan as anywhere — by design

Tre-lan sits in Wales, and like everywhere we serve, it gets the identical service and fee as central London — because nothing about our work depends on where you are. What matters is your situation, your records and your deadlines; all three travel over WhatsApp just fine.

A lot of our Wales clients switched from local firms after one too many surprise invoices. The fix wasn't a cheaper local firm; it was removing the billing model that produces surprises. Fixed fees, in writing, before the work — that's the whole trick.

Questions

Tre-lan payroll FAQs

I'm the only employee of my company — do I need payroll?

If you pay yourself a salary, yes — you need a PAYE scheme and RTI submissions even for one person. Director-only payroll is our most popular package at £25/mo, and we set the salary at the most tax-efficient level for you.

What is auto-enrolment and does it apply to me?

Every employer must assess staff for a workplace pension and enrol eligible employees. Even if your only staff member is you as director, you have duties to declare. We handle assessments, letters and declarations as part of the service.

Can you take over payroll mid-year?

Yes — we transfer year-to-date figures from your old provider or HMRC records and carry straight on. Your staff won't notice anything except that payslips keep arriving on time.

Do I need to visit an office in Tre-lan?

No — there's nothing to visit and nothing to print. We're an online firm: records go through our secure portal or WhatsApp, and everything is filed electronically. It works the same whether you're in Tre-lan or anywhere else in Wales.

I searched "payroll near me" — is this service really local to Tre-lan?

Tre-lan is fully covered, yes. The work is done online, which in practice means more local than an office: same-day replies instead of appointment slots, and the same published fixed fee whether you're in Tre-lan town centre or the edge of Wales. If you'd rather talk it through first, WhatsApp us — a real person answers.

Who will actually handle my payroll?

Bohzo Accountants — a trading name of Bohzo Ltd, a registered UK company (No. 15031604). You get a named contact, a fixed fee in writing, and nothing is filed until you've reviewed and approved it.

How do your fixed fees work?

You tell us your situation, we quote one fixed price in writing before any work starts, and that price never changes mid-job. If your case is unusually complex we'll say so up front and agree a different fixed price — but the fee is always agreed before we begin, never after.

Worth knowing

From our inbox: what Tre-lan businesses ask us

Payroll and pensions for small employers

Directors paying themselves a salary still need a PAYE scheme and RTI submissions, even in a one-person company. It's a five-minute monthly task with software — and a recurring penalty generator without it.

The 31 January deadline, without the panic

Every year a wave of returns gets filed in the final days of January. It works, but it's the most expensive way to do it: no time to check for missed reliefs, and any tax due lands as one surprise. Sending your records early — even unsorted — is the single best gift you can give your January self.

Tax is a cash-flow event

Filing early doesn't mean paying early: submit a return in May and the tax is still not due until the usual dates. Early filing buys certainty, refund speed and time to arrange payment — it costs nothing.

Allowable expenses: claim what's yours

Receipts win arguments. HMRC doesn't demand a shoebox of paper any more — photos in an app are fine — but every deduction needs evidence behind it. A ten-minute weekly habit beats a January archaeology dig, every time.

What to actually look for in an accountant

A good accountant should be able to tell you, in plain English, what they'll do, when, and for exactly how much. Vagueness on any of the three is the tell. Everything else — size of firm, fancy office, distance from Tre-lan — is decoration.

CIS: refunds hide in the paperwork

Subcontractors under the Construction Industry Scheme have 20% deducted at source — often more than their final tax bill once expenses and the personal allowance are counted. That's why CIS refunds are so common: the average claim is well into four figures, but only if the deduction statements are all gathered.

Penalties escalate on a timetable

If a return is late because HMRC asked for one you don't actually need, it can sometimes be withdrawn entirely — penalties included. And where there's a genuine reasonable excuse, appeals succeed more often than people expect. The wrong move is ignoring the letters.

Payments on account, decoded

Payments on account catch people out because the first year effectively bills you one-and-a-half years of tax at once. Knowing that in advance changes how you save through the year — and if profits fall, we can apply to reduce the July payment rather than lending HMRC money interest-free.
