What makes us different

Online accountants vs the high street

A high-street accountant in East Midlands typically bills by the hour, meets by appointment and prices each extra question. We built the opposite: written fixed fees agreed up front, unlimited questions inside the price, and a fully online workflow — no premises anywhere, so no premises priced into your fee in Chilwell.

There's no office to fund in Chilwell and no office to visit: records travel through our secure portal or WhatsApp, approvals happen on your phone, and filings go to HMRC and Companies House electronically. You get the same qualified work — minus the overheads, the travel and the surprises on the invoice.

Serving Chilwell

The same service in Chilwell as anywhere — by design

Whether your business trades from Chilwell itself or you simply live there and work everywhere, the tax rules are national — and so are we. Chilwell clients get the same preparers, the same fixed fees and the same deadline tracking as every other town on this site.

Smaller towns like Chilwell are exactly why we work online: the nearest high-street firm may be a drive away, keep office hours, and price like scarcity. Your accountant should be as close as your phone — and priced like competition exists.

Questions

Chilwell self assessment tax returns FAQs

What does the £129 fee include?

Preparation and online filing of your full SA100 return, including the supplementary pages your situation needs. If your return is more complex — rental income, capital gains — the packages above show the fixed price, and we confirm it in writing before starting.

I've missed the deadline — can you still help?

Yes. Late returns are common and fixable: we prepare and file the outstanding return quickly, and where there's a reasonable excuse we help you appeal penalties. The sooner it's filed, the sooner the penalties stop growing.

What records do I need to send you?

Income records (invoices, statements, P60/P45 if employed), expense records, and any letters from HMRC. Not sure what counts? Send what you have through the portal and we'll tell you exactly what's missing — chasing paperwork is part of the job.

Do I need to visit an office in Chilwell?

No — there's nothing to visit and nothing to print. We're an online firm: records go through our secure portal or WhatsApp, and everything is filed electronically. It works the same whether you're in Chilwell or anywhere else in East Midlands.

I searched "self assessment near me" — is this service really local to Chilwell?

Chilwell is fully covered, yes. The work is done online, which in practice means more local than an office: same-day replies instead of appointment slots, and the same published fixed fee whether you're in Chilwell town centre or the edge of East Midlands. If you'd rather talk it through first, WhatsApp us — a real person answers.

Who will actually handle my self assessment?

Bohzo Accountants — a trading name of Bohzo Ltd, a registered UK company (No. 15031604). You get a named contact, a fixed fee in writing, and nothing is filed until you've reviewed and approved it.

How do your fixed fees work?

You tell us your situation, we quote one fixed price in writing before any work starts, and that price never changes mid-job. If your case is unusually complex we'll say so up front and agree a different fixed price — but the fee is always agreed before we begin, never after.

Worth knowing

The short version of the rules that matter

Dividends: the allowance is small now

The tax-free dividend allowance is down to £500, so almost any director taking dividends now pays some dividend tax — and needs a Self Assessment return to report it. The classic small-salary-plus-dividends strategy still works; it just needs actual planning rather than folklore.

IR35 and working through a company

Status under IR35 turns on the reality of the engagement: control, substitution, mutuality of obligation. Contracts matter, but working practices matter more. A written status assessment for each engagement is cheap insurance.

Sole trader or limited company?

The honest answer changes with your profits. At lower profits, sole trader simplicity usually wins; as profits grow, a limited company's mix of salary and dividends, corporation tax rates and liability protection starts earning its extra admin. We run the actual numbers before recommending either.

The VAT registration threshold

Some businesses register for VAT before they must — reclaiming input VAT can be worth it if your customers are VAT-registered themselves. Others should stay below deliberately. It's a real decision with real numbers, not a formality.

Penalties escalate on a timetable

Self Assessment lateness is priced in stages: £100 immediately, daily £10 penalties after three months (up to £900), then percentage-based charges at six and twelve months — all separate from interest on unpaid tax. The curve is designed to reward filing sooner, whatever the state of your records.

Payments on account, decoded

If your last Self Assessment bill was over £1,000, HMRC usually asks for next year's tax in advance — half on 31 January, half on 31 July. It's the number-one cause of "why is my bill double?" calls, and it's manageable: if your income has dropped, the payments can be reduced with a claim.

Your first year in business

The first tax bill is the hardest because it can arrive with payments on account attached — up to 150% of the year's tax in one go. New businesses that save a quarter to a third of profits from day one never feel it.

Allowable expenses: claim what's yours

The expenses rule is "wholly and exclusively" for the trade — which covers more than most people claim (proportionate home-working costs, business mileage, software subscriptions) and less than some hope (client entertaining, everyday clothing). Knowing the line is where the savings live.

General guidance, not personal advice — thresholds and dates change. For advice on your own position in Chilwell, message us and we'll answer against your actual numbers.
