Compare our fixed vat returns fees
| Your situation | Fixed fee |
|---|---|
| VAT returns only (your bookkeeping) | £35/mo |
| VAT + bookkeeping bundle | £119/mo |
| VAT registration (one-off) | £79 |

“From” pricing reflects the simplest case; anything more complex is quoted as a fixed fee in writing before work begins — and never changes after.
Online accountants vs the high street
A high-street accountant in Scotland typically bills by the hour, meets by appointment and prices each extra question. Our model inverts that: the fee is fixed and written down before work begins, questions are part of the service rather than billable events, and everything happens online — the reason Mealasta pays the same as everywhere else.
There's no office to fund in Mealasta and no office to visit: records travel through our secure portal or WhatsApp, approvals happen on your phone, and filings go to HMRC and Companies House electronically. You get the same qualified work — minus the overheads, the travel and the surprises on the invoice.
VAT Returns in Mealasta: from first message to filed
A WhatsApp message from Mealasta is enough to start: what you need, what shape your records are in, any deadline you're worried about.
The quote arrives in writing, covers everything discussed, and is the number you'll actually pay. No revisions later.
Identity checks, engagement letter, secure record upload — all handled from wherever you are in Mealasta. We chase whatever's missing.
Nothing is filed until you've seen and approved it. Once you have, submission is electronic and confirmation comes straight back.
The same service in Mealasta as anywhere — by design
Mealasta sits in Scotland, and like everywhere we serve, it gets the identical service and fee as central London — because nothing about our work depends on where you are. What matters is your situation, your records and your deadlines; all three travel over WhatsApp just fine.
Smaller towns like Mealasta are exactly why we work online: the nearest high-street firm may be a drive away, keep office hours, and price like scarcity. Your accountant should be as close as your phone — and priced like competition exists.

Mealasta vat returns FAQs
When do I have to register for VAT?
When your taxable turnover in any rolling 12-month period passes £90,000 — a rolling test, not your accounting year, and the most common way businesses get caught out. We monitor it for bookkeeping clients automatically.
Which VAT scheme is best for me?
It depends on your margins and customers. The flat-rate scheme suits some service businesses; cash accounting helps if customers pay slowly; standard suits most. We'll compare them for your numbers before registering you.
What is Making Tax Digital?
HMRC's requirement that VAT records are kept digitally and returns filed through compatible software. If you're still on spreadsheets and manual filing, we'll move you across as part of onboarding — it's included.
Do I need to visit an office in Mealasta?
No — there's nothing to visit and nothing to print. We're an online firm: records go through our secure portal or WhatsApp, and everything is filed electronically. It works the same whether you're in Mealasta or anywhere else in Scotland.
I searched "vat near me" — is this service really local to Mealasta?
Mealasta is fully covered, yes. The work is done online, which in practice means more local than an office: same-day replies instead of appointment slots, and the same published fixed fee whether you're in Mealasta town centre or the edge of Scotland. If you'd rather talk it through first, WhatsApp us — a real person answers.
Who will actually handle my vat?
Bohzo Accountants — a trading name of Bohzo Ltd, a registered UK company (No. 15031604). You get a named contact, a fixed fee in writing, and nothing is filed until you've reviewed and approved it.
How do your fixed fees work?
You tell us your situation, we quote one fixed price in writing before any work starts, and that price never changes mid-job. If your case is unusually complex we'll say so up front and agree a different fixed price — but the fee is always agreed before we begin, never after.
From our inbox: what Mealasta businesses ask us
Most HMRC letters are routine — a statement, a code change, a reminder. The rule is simple: never ignore one, and never panic over one. Forwarded to your accountant the day it arrives, almost every letter is a five-minute job.
The best salary-dividend mix moves with each year's thresholds and your other income. Setting it once in April — rather than guessing through the year — is one of the simplest pieces of planning a director can do.
The July payment on account is the forgotten deadline: no return is due, but money often is. We diary it for every client it applies to, because HMRC charges interest from the day it's late even though nothing was "filed" late.
Plenty of people incorporate too early because it "sounds established", then pay for accounts, confirmation statements and payroll they didn't need. The switch pays for itself at the right profit level — the trick is knowing yours.
Can't pay the bill by the deadline? File anyway. Filing and payment are penalised separately, and HMRC's Time to Pay arrangements can spread the bill — but only once the return is in. Not filing because you can't pay turns one problem into two.
The first tax bill is the hardest because it can arrive with payments on account attached — up to 150% of the year's tax in one go. New businesses that save a quarter to a third of profits from day one never feel it.
Online Self Assessment returns are due by 31 January, along with any balancing payment — and HMRC's £100 penalty applies the moment the deadline passes, even if you owe nothing. Most Mealasta clients who come to us in January still file on time; the records just need to arrive before the last week.
MTD for Income Tax starts with the £50,000+ income group in April 2026, with lower bands following. Quarterly digital updates sound worse than they are — with software doing the bookkeeping, the quarters largely take care of themselves.
General guidance, not personal advice — thresholds and dates change. For advice on your own position in Mealasta, message us and we'll answer against your actual numbers.
