What makes us different

Online accountants vs the high street

A high-street accountant in East of England typically bills by the hour, meets by appointment and prices each extra question. We built the opposite: written fixed fees agreed up front, unlimited questions inside the price, and a fully online workflow — no premises anywhere, so no premises priced into your fee in Rack Fen.

There's no office to fund in Rack Fen and no office to visit: records travel through our secure portal or WhatsApp, approvals happen on your phone, and filings go to HMRC and Companies House electronically. You get the same qualified work — minus the overheads, the travel and the surprises on the invoice.

Questions

Accountants in Rack Fen: FAQs

Do you have an office in Rack Fen?

No — and that's deliberate. We're online accountants serving Rack Fen and the whole UK: records travel through our secure portal or WhatsApp, filings go to HMRC electronically, and the savings on premises show up in our fixed fees.

Which accounting services are available in Rack Fen?

All our core services are available in Rack Fen: Self Assessment, limited company accounts, bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, corporation tax, sole trader accounts and company formation — each at a fixed fee. Specialist services are available on request.

I searched "accountant near me" — do you actually cover Rack Fen?

Yes — Rack Fen is fully covered. We're online accountants, so "near" works differently: no office to drive to, but same-day responses, filings handled for Rack Fen businesses every week, and local detail like East of England deadlines and postcodes built into how we work. For most people that beats an office across town they'd visit once a year.

How quickly can you start?

Usually the same week. Message us on WhatsApp, get your fixed quote in writing, complete online onboarding (including the identity checks UK accountants must run), and send your records — most engagements start within days.

How do your fixed fees work?

Every job is quoted as one fixed price in writing before work starts, and that price never changes mid-job. No hourly billing, no surprise invoices — if something extra comes up, it gets its own quote first.

Worth knowing

Things worth knowing before your next filing

IR35 and working through a company

If you contract through your own limited company, IR35 asks whether you'd be an employee without it. For medium and large clients, the status decision is theirs; for small clients, it's still yours — and getting it wrong in either direction costs money.

Dividends: the allowance is small now

The tax-free dividend allowance is down to £500, so almost any director taking dividends now pays some dividend tax — and needs a Self Assessment return to report it. The classic small-salary-plus-dividends strategy still works; it just needs actual planning rather than folklore.

Sole trader or limited company?

The honest answer changes with your profits. At lower profits, sole trader simplicity usually wins; as profits grow, a limited company's mix of salary and dividends, corporation tax rates and liability protection starts earning its extra admin. We run the actual numbers before recommending either.

Landlord tax has its own rules

Rental profits need reporting once they're more than trivial, and the rules differ for furnished holiday lets, rent-a-room and ordinary lets. Landlords are also in the first wave of Making Tax Digital — property income counts towards the £50,000 threshold.

Your first year in business

The first tax bill is the hardest because it can arrive with payments on account attached — up to 150% of the year's tax in one go. New businesses that save a quarter to a third of profits from day one never feel it.

Payments on account, decoded

If your last Self Assessment bill was over £1,000, HMRC usually asks for next year's tax in advance — half on 31 January, half on 31 July. It's the number-one cause of "why is my bill double?" calls, and it's manageable: if your income has dropped, the payments can be reduced with a claim.

Tax is a cash-flow event

The businesses that struggle with tax bills rarely have a tax problem; they have a timing problem. Knowing the bill in September instead of January — which filing early gives you for free — is the difference between planning and scrambling.

The 31 January deadline, without the panic

Online Self Assessment returns are due by 31 January, along with any balancing payment — and HMRC's £100 penalty applies the moment the deadline passes, even if you owe nothing. Most Rack Fen clients who come to us in January still file on time; the records just need to arrive before the last week.
