What makes us different

Online accountants vs the high street

A high-street accountant in East of England typically bills by the hour, meets by appointment and prices each extra question. We built the opposite: written fixed fees agreed up front, unlimited questions inside the price, and a fully online workflow — no premises anywhere, so no premises priced into your fee in Turves.

There's no office to fund in Turves and no office to visit: records travel through our secure portal or WhatsApp, approvals happen on your phone, and filings go to HMRC and Companies House electronically. You get the same qualified work — minus the overheads, the travel and the surprises on the invoice.

Questions

Accountants in Turves: FAQs

Do you have an office in Turves?

No — and that's deliberate. We're online accountants serving Turves and the whole UK: records travel through our secure portal or WhatsApp, filings go to HMRC electronically, and the savings on premises show up in our fixed fees.

Which accounting services are available in Turves?

All our core services are available in Turves: Self Assessment, limited company accounts, bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, corporation tax, sole trader accounts and company formation — each at a fixed fee. Specialist services are available on request.

I searched "accountant near me" — do you actually cover Turves?

Yes — Turves is fully covered. We're online accountants, so "near" works differently: no office to drive to, but same-day responses, filings handled for Turves businesses every week, and local detail like East of England deadlines and postcodes built into how we work. For most people that beats an office across town they'd visit once a year.

How quickly can you start?

Usually the same week. Message us on WhatsApp, get your fixed quote in writing, complete online onboarding (including the identity checks UK accountants must run), and send your records — most engagements start within days.

How do your fixed fees work?

Every job is quoted as one fixed price in writing before work starts, and that price never changes mid-job. No hourly billing, no surprise invoices — if something extra comes up, it gets its own quote first.

Worth knowing

Things worth knowing before your next filing

Penalties escalate on a timetable

Self Assessment lateness is priced in stages: £100 immediately, daily £10 penalties after three months (up to £900), then percentage-based charges at six and twelve months — all separate from interest on unpaid tax. The curve is designed to reward filing sooner, whatever the state of your records.

Payments on account, decoded

If your last Self Assessment bill was over £1,000, HMRC usually asks for next year's tax in advance — half on 31 January, half on 31 July. It's the number-one cause of "why is my bill double?" calls, and it's manageable: if your income has dropped, the payments can be reduced with a claim.

Your first year in business

The first tax bill is the hardest because it can arrive with payments on account attached — up to 150% of the year's tax in one go. New businesses that save a quarter to a third of profits from day one never feel it.

The 31 January deadline, without the panic

Online Self Assessment returns are due by 31 January, along with any balancing payment — and HMRC's £100 penalty applies the moment the deadline passes, even if you owe nothing. Most Turves clients who come to us in January still file on time; the records just need to arrive before the last week.

Crypto is taxable — and visible

HMRC runs nudge-letter campaigns to crypto holders based on exchange data. If there are undeclared gains in past years, a voluntary disclosure is dramatically cheaper than waiting for the letter — penalties are scaled to cooperation.

Capital gains: windows and allowances

UK residential property sales have their own regime: report and pay within 60 days of completion, separately from Self Assessment. Other gains report annually. Mixing up the two timetables is a common and expensive mistake.

Dividends: the allowance is small now

The tax-free dividend allowance is down to £500, so almost any director taking dividends now pays some dividend tax — and needs a Self Assessment return to report it. The classic small-salary-plus-dividends strategy still works; it just needs actual planning rather than folklore.

Corporation tax dates work differently

Company deadlines run off your accounting year end, not the tax year: corporation tax is payable nine months and one day after year end, and the CT600 return is due twelve months after. Confusingly, the payment is due before the return — a sequencing quirk that catches new directors.
